Jarrett's background includes over two decades in commercial illustration, graphic design and architectural illustration. He's also an accomplished digital artist and as such has worked for several game development companies in the Seattle, Washington area.

Jarrett began painting at the age of four. He launched his professional art career in 1981 after moving to Europe where he spent 15 months painting architecture and landscapes. Having grown up in Alaska, Jarrett was drawn to marine mammals, especially whales. To more accurately portray these animals, he spent years traveling the world researching and painting his subjects.

Many of his marine field-studies are actually painted while underwater in scuba gear, using modified tools and equipment of his own design. His research has taken him to places such as Antarctica, Asia, Europe, South America, Canada, Hawaii, the Dutch Caribbean and many areas of the western coast of the U.S. He has been referred to as Washington's own "Whale Man" for his marine art contributions.
